On Friday, October 22nd, 2021, Nafisa Media Limited hosted a creative writing seminar for young female Sierra Leoneans at Hotel Barmoi, Aberdeen, Freetown, Sierra Leone. The event’s theme was ‘Where Creativity Lives,’ as the aim was to discuss creative writing skills and use said skills to achieve financial independence.

The seminar had two panels, with each panelist sharing their creative writing journeys. Books authored by the panelists were also displayed at the event.

The first panel discussion was moderated by Ms. Marina Terry, a Journalist at AYV Media Empire and a Gender Activist. The panel included Mrs. Sophie Allieu (Author, Editor, Screenplay Writer, Administrator, etc.), Madam Naasu Fofanah (Author, Entrepreneur, and international Development Consultant), and Ms. Eunice Naffie Mustapha (Writer, Author, Editor, Branding, Communications, and sexual reproductive health and Rights Consultant). Ms. Mustapha is also the CEO of Nafisa Media Limited.

Mrs. Sophie Allieu shared tips on publishing a novel; Madam Naasu Fofanah spoke about the best approach to writing a creative biography, and Ms. Eunice Naffie Mustapha explained relevant things to consider when writing a creative blog.

Furthermore, Ms. Precious Aretha Jah-Tucker (Public Relations & Media Consultant, Publisher & Event Host) moderated the second panel, which included Mr. Francis Stevens George (Author, Economist, Innovator & Entrepreneur), who spoke about creative writing in an innovative world and Ms. Bernadette Kemokai (Arts Designer, Writer & Author), who spoke about important things to consider in writing a short story.

At the end of each panel, participants were required to ask questions and make comments. It was intriguing as participants shared their challenges and showed interest in learning more about the panelists’ presentations.

After that, Madam Aminata Kamara (Human Resources and Corporate Affairs Executive, G100 Country Chair for Youth Leadership & Youth Enterprise, and Chair of the Institute of Human Resources Sierra Leone) gave the keynote address, making a powerful speech about professionalism. She highlighted its importance to career growth and explained how to act professionally in a working atmosphere. The speech focused on getting creative writers to excel and serve their clients professionally.

Participants were also certified at the end of the event.

Other highlights included prayer sessions by Rosaline Bundeh, a writer at Nafisa Media Limited, and Isata Kamara, the CEO of Ice Photography. Ms. Rosaline Judy, the Marketing Manager of Nafisa Media Limited, was the emcee for the day. Wuya Sao Kallon, the Accountant of Nafisa Media Limited, gave a vote of thanks and invited participants to apply to work with Nafisa Media Limited as a next step.
